Dr. Nilima Shankar, MD, superannuated in 2018 as Director-Professor and Head, Department of Physiology, University College of Medical Sciences.
(her alma mater for MBBS and MD degrees). In a career spanning over 39 years, she has several scientific publications and presentations to her credit. She was a member of several editorial boards as well as committees of the Government of India, the Medical Council of India, the University of Delhi, and other universities in India. Dr. Shankar was awarded the Exchange of Scientists Programme Fellowship, implemented by the INSA-Royal Society, London, for collaborating in research in the UK.
She was selected to conduct an integrated and problem-based MBBS curriculum at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan, Nepal. She was appointed as an external assessor of the MBBS Programme of Studies at Sir SS Ramgoolam Medical College, University of Mauritius, to oversee and report on all medical exams held by them for 3 years. Dr. Shankar was the first recipient of the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award, instituted by UCMS alumni, for making a significant contribution to the development and growth of medical education.
She was bestowed with the “Eminent Medical and Health Education Award” (2022) from the Delhi Medical Association.
