PROHEALTH WOMEN

The life stages and changes experienced by women can have a wide ranging impact on their bodies over and above injury, trauma or illness. Menstruation, menopause, childbirth and its related conditions can the also significantly impact the body. However, most women are unaware that help is available and assume that they must live with these conditions as little or nothing can be done to overcome them except medical/operative treatments, which is not the case.

There is growing evidence that physiotherapy interventions can alleviate and in many conditions can cure these symptoms.

At Prohealth, we have physiotherapists who have special interest in women's health and pelvic floor rehabilitation.

Some of the issues that can be positively managed through physiotherapy are:

  • Bladder and Bowel dysfunction including incontinence
  • Pelvic pain
  • Painful intercourse
  • Pelvic floor muscle dysfunction
  • Pelvic organ prolapse
  • Pre and post natal problems including pain in the breasts (mastitis), low back pain and abdominal muscle separation
  • Ante natal and Post natal Rehabilitation
  • Neuro-musculoskeletal issues
  • Lymphedema
  • Post surgical intervention (eg: Hysterectomy)
  • Sciatica, nerve compression syndromes, sacroiliac joint pain (tail bone pain), pubis symphsis (pain in the pubic area)

Your initial consult will cover a thorough musculoskeletal assessment of presenting condition and an in depth discussion about an effective evidence based treatment approach best suited for your presenting health issue. Whilst these issues are sensitive in nature and often difficult to discuss, our therapists will effectively and passionately help you manage your problems in a private and comfortable environment.

Treatment may involve simple therapeutic exercises, soft tissue release , manual corrective techniques, follow-up rehabilitation sessions may be advised for supervised guided exercises or clinical Pilates.

As an example physiotherapy session for urinary incontinence may include:

  • Practical tips and remedies to reduce urinary frequency and urge.
  • Dietary changes which can be made to avoid the irritating or overactivebladder.
  • An exercise programme to strengthen the pelvic floor musculature and for muscle awareness.
  • Biofeedback, electrical stimulation for pelvic floor rehabilitation.

The Prohealth women program will help identify exercises, retrain the right pelvic floor muscles and help improve quality of life.
