The Bangabandhu Cup Golf Open 2019

In this blog, I am sharing the experience of my first visit to Bangladesh as a physiotherapist for “Bangabandhu Cup Golf Open 2019”, an Asian Tour Professional Golf Tournament from 3rd April - 6th April at Kurmitola golf club in Dhaka. Around 150 players drawn from 22 countries to participate in the competition.

Being a sports physio I have worked with shooting and hockey before but I really haven't got a chance to work with golfers much so I was really excited about this new experience. I was also accompanied by one of my Thai colleagues for this event and it was wonderful working with her.

We used to start an hour before the first tee around 5:30 am and stay until every player has finished playing. Early parts of the week often involved with dealing with more acute injuries and working on strength and conditioning and rehab programmes. Moving through the week, we did more preparation, recovery and maintenance work with the players.

Also because of the hot and humid climatic condition of Dhaka, we have seen conditions like blisters, high fever, diarrhoea, skin rashes and treated accordingly. As we were the only medical professionals over there so it was our responsibility to deal with every situation carefully and take the right decision at the right time.

Overall it was a great experience I got a chance to meet and treat players from various countries and learn from each of them. I am really happy and proud to be a part of Prohealth Asia that has given me this opportunity to travel and fulfil my passion for working as a Sports Physiotherapist.
